ESS goes MINT

Together with the kids, we visited the InfoLabSaar and GOFEX at Saarland University

Have you ever been involved in computer science?

Our P1 pupils were able to gain their first programming experience with the app Sratch JR during their visit to the school laboratory at Saarland University. The pupils were enthusiastic about the playful approach - "This is a great app", "I would like to play with the app at home".
With the help of a hidden object picture, the children also dealt with where computers help in everyday life. Our insight: Without computers, our everyday life and our world would look very different. We encounter computer science everywhere and it is an important part of digital education. At ESS, we would like to promote these competencies from grade P1 and get the children excited about it in a playful way. We are therefore looking forward to visit the InfoLabSaar regularly in the future and to integrate aspects of computer literacy into our everyday teaching.

After our visit to the InfoLab, we also visited the GOFEX (primary school laboratory for open experimentation). Here, the children were allowed to deal with various phenomena and questions on the topic of light and shadow. Among other things, we explored the questions "Are there coloured shadows?" and "Can one object produce several shadows? The pupils had a lot of fun discovering independently these phenomena and proudly presented their experimental set-up and the findings.

Conclusion: We are looking forward to visit InfoLabSaar and GOFEX again!
