In the S4 level, students at the European School of Saarland complete a two-week internship. The student internship is therefore a school activity (under the Saarland School Regulations Act), in which participation is not only mandatory for students but is also assessed in class with regard to preparation and follow-up work, independence, and reflection.

The placement does neither constitute a training nor an employment relationship; therefore, the provisions of the Youth Labor Protection Act must be observed when carrying out the work placement. The work performed by our students may not exceed 35 hours per week and 7 hours per day (excluding breaks). Work on Saturdays is permitted if time off is provided on another workday of the same week.

All students should, whenever possible, visit the companies that are potential candidates for their nternship in person. Students should conduct their internship search independently and based on their individual interests; if they have any questions, teachers are, of course, available to offer guidance and support. However, students are responsible for making phone calls, sending emails, and establishing other forms of contact.

The internship can generally be completed in any sector that is recognized as a training provider, such as:

  • manufacturing,
  • trades,
  • retail and transportation,
  • agriculture,
  • service and utility companies,
  • public administration,
  • social service organizations
